FILM MAKING TIPS

TIPS FROM A TROPFEST WINNER

Genevieve Clay, who won Tropfest 2009 with her short film ‘Be My Brother’, talks about the power of short films to deliver important messages and gives you hints and tips to make a great short film:

  • The Live & Love short film competition is about creatively delivering a message with the aim of busting myths and revealing truths about the Herpes Simplex Virus in 30 seconds or less. The Judge’s Choice Award is up to $10,000 plus there are five People’s Choice Awards of up to $1,000 for the most popular films on the site, so it’s definitely worth getting involved!
  • First read the brief.
  • Then, make sure you have a good story to tell. Great films are all about the script and the concept – you don’t have to recreate Lord of the Rings, just think outside the box. Even with no budget and little time, you can still win!
  • Next, think about the style of film that’s going to best suit you and the message you want to convey. Are you going to use animation, stop motion or live action? Will you use drama, comedy, romance, documentary or even horror?
  • You can enter more than one film – which increases your chances of winning. So enter the Live & Love short film competition and tell all your friends to visit the site and vote for your film.
